More than a century had passed since the first photographic records of Khmer classical dance were taken at the sacred temples of Angkor. To commemorate this, dancers of the Cambodian Royal Ballet returned to the temples to pay homage to ancient dancers and reconnect with the spiritual energy passed down through generations of dancers and masters.
The film document their journey and thus bore witness to their admirable diligence of mind, body, and spirit. It an attempt to highlight the beauty and intricacies of Khmer Classical Dance and to honour the group of women who have dedicated their lives to keeping their sacred heritage alive.
This visualizer was co-directed with Cambodian documentary filmmaker and photographer Ponita Keo. A longer feature documentary, also titled Heritage, is currently in production.
