Maximiliano Battaglia is a Uruguayan filmmaker and photographer working in the field of experimental documentary. His documentary practice is aimed at conjecture rather than generating knowledge, for which he resorts to hybrid practices that favor imagination, uncertainty, and subjective experiences. His approach to image-making is layered and polycentric allowing for poetically intertwined realities to emerge.

Maximiliano holds a Masters in Fine Arts (MFA) in Photography and Image-making from the Paris College of Art. His degree thesis titled “Creative Documentary: a Subjective and Immersive Experience” focuses on hybrid practices in documentary, experimental approaches to the representation of experience, and theories that favor embodiment in documentary viewing.

His video work has been selected to film festivals such as Beijing Indie Short Film Festival, Cambodia International Film Festival (CIFF), and Guelph Dance Festival Screen Dance Series.

He is Adjunct Faculty in the Photography department at the Paris College of Art
