Multi-channel video installation with a 12.1 sound piece by Owen Moran.
Muda is an installation that explores change as a silent force hidden in plain
sight. In spanish, “Muda” refers to both a nonspeaking person and the act
of shedding skin — a quiet transformation.
Coinciding with the atelier’s coming renovation and celebration of its 150th
anniversary, the exhibition focuses on this transitional period and pays
tribute to the sensory cues and timeless energy of the space. Through
looping videos of unresolved gestures, chemically decaying images that
fade or disappear entirely, and sonic compositions reverberating in the air,
this exhibition immerses viewers in notions of visibility, change, and the
imperceptible flux of time.
The exhibition centers on the idea of the atelier as a living bodywhere the
walls of the exhibition space are treated like skin: touched, altered, and
brought alive by images that aim not to reveal, but to conceal. The installation
invites viewers to witness this very skin that is shedding, in the process of
“muda”: fragile, marked, and continuously in the process of becoming.
The short film “11”, conceived during a self-directed residency with L’AiR Arts at Atelier 11, premiered in resonance with the Nuit Blanche’s 2025 theme.
